In short Batman: Arkham City is an incredible game, one of the very best of the year, and perhaps this generation. Arkham City is a massive game, the story is relatively short, but cool lengthy side-quests, over four hundred riddler trophies insures that the game will stay in your system for weeks to come. That's not a real problem, since both are mighty fun, but it would have been nice to have a little more then that near the end. the problem with these "dungeons" is that near the end they sorta get predictable, you will know what to expect from almost any given room, and basically combat-stealth-combat in different orders, with the occasional puzzle. The game's formula is very similar to The Legend of Zelda. stealth plays a key role too, it's a blast, but near the end it starts to get repetitive, since the stealth doesn't evolve a lot beyond it's core mechanics thru the game. combat is defiantly a highlight, with amazing animation and brutal take downs. besides the feel of time, the game just feel right. most of the side quests are great, with outcast batman villeins. the side quests are good, but because they are usually lengthy, it hurts the feel of time too. it screws up the feel of time, and it just doesn't make any sense. when you have a open world to explore and side quests to take part in, it just doesn't feel like one night. the plot happened in supposedly one night, and that is one of my problems with the game. the story itself is abut 10-12 hours, both gameplay wise, and story wise.
Nevertheless, it's a great story, and the story telling is strong, thanks to supreme voice work. Just a purely brilliant game, made by a company who actually listen to the customers, and what they didn't like about the original Arkham. The voice actors all do a fantastic job, especially Conroy as Batman and Hamill as the Joker. The open world system is great, and they were clever to not mess Arkham City up too badly and add respawning thugs so after you had completed the main story you could pretend you were in Gotham just fighting crime. The story in this one is just as good as the last, even if they try to put as many characters in as possible, with an ending which almost made me cry, and something in the credits sequence finished the job, trust me I was broken by the end of this game it has such a powerful ending. They are quite easy but I like that, playing as Batman I would want fighting a supervillain to be easy. There is an immense lack of button mashing so my controller is safe once again, and the boss battles are all different.
